LIGHTS
It is one of the most preferred varieties among the Işıklar type chestnut seedlings with its fruits medium size, light green shell color, round and smooth surface. Işıklar chestnut fruit is indisputable with its taste as well as fleshy, and it has a structure with abundant productivity. Işıklar chestnut saplings, which are more productive in loose soils, are harvested in July. This sapling variety, which is very resistant to cold, may be sensitive to the first cold weather of autumn. This delicious fruit, originating from Anatolia, is harvested by removing it from its green thorny cocoon when the harvest time comes.
Belt
Trees show upright growth. Its fruits are medium in size, hard and light brown. Fruit flesh is thin, soft, high quality and delicious. It is suitable for storage. Chestnut lasts up to –300C in winter. But it is susceptible to the first frosts of late spring to late autumn. It grows in places with an average annual precipitation of 600-1600 mm. It does not like too much precipitation as it will affect fertilization during the flowering period. Excessive rainfall causes the leaves to fall due to fungal disease. Since the chestnut is pile rooted, the soil must be loose and permeable. It prefers potassium-rich soils of volcanic origin. It is easier to get ink disease in heavy and clay soils. Chestnut groves should not be established in pit valleys where cold accumulates. Slopes are ideal for the garden.
The tree grows moderately vigorous and broad. It is a very productive variety. The fruits are large-very large, the fruit shell is medium thick, light mahogany brown and shiny. The flesh is cream colored and the quality is quite good. It matures in the first week of October in Bursa region. Maraval variety can be used as a pollinator. Chestnut is a kind suitable for confectionery industry and table consumption. Chestnut is a very resistant variety against branch cancer and ink disease.
Marigoule
Marigoule Chestnut Tree shows medium vigor and broad growth. It is a medium thin-shelled, large and productive chestnut type. The bark is light brown and shiny. Fruit color is cream color, quality is quite good. The chestnut tree, which sheds its leaves in winter, turns green again in spring. Depending on its location and soil structure, it will be sufficient to irrigate once in 10-15 days. If the climate does not go very dry in winter, irrigation is not done. Potassium-rich soil can be preferred for planting seedlings. Heavy, clayey soil with high water permeability should not be preferred. In aged, yielding trees, the main branches are pruned strongly and new shoots are formed. Thus, the tree rejuvenates and the yield rate increases. Harvest time is the first week of October.
